Roll Call: The Recent Republican Congressional Leadership

And now, a list of the recent Republican Congressional leadership:

Speakers of the House:

1999-present (well, 2006):  Dennis Hastert.  Covered up predatory actions of disgraced former Republican Congressman Rep. Mark Foley, subsequently lies about it.

1995-1999:  Newt Gingrich. Laughed out of Congress after attempt to turn public tide against Clinton backfires.

Now, let's look at the Republican Majority Leaders...Republican U.S. Senate Majority Leaders:

2002-present:  Bill Frist.   Orchestrated emergency session of Congress in order to assert his personal video diagnosis of Terri Schiavo over that of her physicians.  Killer of puppies and kitties, literally.

1996-2002:  Trent Lott. Driven from Congress after the following remarks about Strom Thurmond's failed 1948 presidential bid on a platform of racial segregation:  "I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."  (Oops.  Live mic.)  Plus, his known affiliation with a hate group didn't help.

And of course, who could forget the Republican Majority Leader of the House:

2003-2005:  Tom "Hammertime!" Delay. This man has no shame. Ridden  out of Congress on a rail.

Did I miss anybody?
