The Nevada State Democratic Party has obtained documentation which proves that Rep. Jim Gibbons, the GOP candidate for Nevada Governor, knowingly employed a nanny who was an undocumented worker (pdf).
From the story as reported by KLAS (local Las Vegas news):
The woman, Patricia Pastor Sandoval, says she worked for the Gibbons' for years and the family occasionally made her hide in the basement to keep her illegal status a secret. Here's the video of the story, as reported by KLAS last night.
By contrast, according to this crazy anti-immigration group, Jim Gibbons earns a career B+ for his voting record on immigration. (He even ranks 95th in the entire House, beating out 131 other Republicans!) From a statement issued by Dawn Gibbons (wife of Rep. Gibbons):
...I befriended Ms. Sandoval and she performed occasional odd jobs in my home 1987... [sic] although I never considered her an employee... --Dawn Gibbons, October 24, 2006
This is clearly a lie, as you can see from the aforementioned application for alien employment from 1987, which describes the duties to be performed thusly:
SUPERVISION AND CARE OF CHILD, CLEANING OF HOUSE, WASHING/IRONING, PREPARATION OF MEALS AS NEEDED
Furthermore, the job is listed as being from 40 hours per week, from 8:00 AM til 5:30 PM, for $800 per month.
"Occasional odd jobs"? Hardly.
Obviously, this is still developing...
