I just got a forward from my friend of an email exchange between the local army recruiter and herself, regarding whether or not she'd be interested in joining up.
She politely declined and wished him luck, acknowledging that it must be difficult having to recruit at a very liberal college (Oberlin).
He wrote back saying that, since it was no longer an election year, the students were much more polite, and by the way, if she wanted to really give him good luck, could she please send along two names of people who would qualify for the army?
"This guy is pushing his luck," she wrote to all of us.
I, however, was not so cynical. In fact, two eligible recruits leapt right to mind, so I wrote him back...
